- foms needs you! -Help Us Keep the Spirit Alive at Morgans School
Every year, Friends of Morgans School (FOMS) plays a vital role in creating memorable experiences for students and raising funds that support school activities. This year, all of our current PTA (Parent Teacher Association) members are stepping down, leaving a gap that threatens the future of beloved events like school discos, fairs, and quiz nights. Without new parents stepping forward, these events may no longer happen, and the school will lose important fundraising opportunities. This post is a heartfelt invitation to new parents to join FOMS and help keep the spirit of Morgans School alive. Come to our AGM at 9am on Wednesday 25th February to find out more! Morgans School Summer fair setup with vibrant inflatables and stalls Come and join us for our AGM on Wednesday 25th February at 9am What is a PTA AGM? It’s the Annual General Meeting of the Parent Teacher Association. Once a year, parents and staff get together to: Look back at what the PTA has achieved Share how the money raised has supported the school Chat about plans and ideas for the year ahead Welcome new volunteers (in any shape or form!) Why should new parents come? Because it’s relaxed, informative, and a lovely way to meet other parents without any pressure. You don’t need to join a committee, take on a role, or commit to anything — just come along, listen in, and get a feel for what the PTA does. Most people are surprised by how friendly and down‑to‑earth it is. It’s simply a group of parents trying to make school life a little brighter for the children — whether that’s funding new equipment, organising fun events, or supporting teachers where it matters. If you’re curious, want to meet people, or just fancy understanding how things work behind the scenes, the AGM is the perfect place to start. You’ll be welcomed with open arms. Why the PTA Matters to Morgans School FOMS is more than just a group of volunteers. It is the heart of the school community, connecting parents, teachers, and students through shared activities and support. The funds raised by the PTA help pay for equipment, classroom resources, and special projects that enhance the learning environment. Events organized by FOMS also build a sense of belonging and fun that students and families look forward to every year. When FOMS is active, the school benefits in many ways: Funding for school resources: New books, sports equipment, and technology upgrades. Community events: Discos, fairs, and quiz nights that bring families together. Support for teachers: Extra materials and classroom enhancements. Student opportunities: Scholarships, clubs, and special outings. Without a PTA, these benefits will disappear, and the school community will lose a vital source of support. What Happens If No One Joins the PTA? If no new parents join the PTA, Morgans School will face several challenges: No more popular events: School discos, fairs, and quiz nights will be cancelled. Reduced fundraising: Less money for important school projects and resources. Weaker community ties: Fewer chances for parents and students to connect outside the classroom. Increased pressure on staff: Teachers and school leaders will have to fill the gap left by the PTA. This is not just about missing out on fun events. It affects the quality of education and the overall school experience for every child. How You Can Make a Difference Joining FOMS is a rewarding way to get involved in your child’s school life. You don’t need special skills or a lot of time. Every parent’s contribution counts, whether you can help organize an event, manage communications, or simply attend meetings to share ideas. Here are some ways new members can contribute: Event planning: Help organize school fairs, discos, and quiz nights. Fundraising: Coordinate bake sales, raffles, or sponsorship drives. Communication: Manage newsletters, social media updates, or parent outreach. Volunteer coordination: Recruit and schedule volunteers for events. Creative support: Design posters, decorations, or promotional materials. Even a small commitment can have a big impact. Many hands make light work, and the PTA thrives on the energy and ideas of new parents. What You Gain by Joining the PTA Being part of the PTA offers benefits beyond helping the school. It is a chance to: Build friendships: Meet other parents and form lasting connections. Stay informed: Learn more about school activities and your child’s education. Develop skills: Gain experience in event planning, fundraising, and teamwork. Set an example: Show your child the value of community involvement. Have fun: Enjoy social events and celebrations with your family. Many parents find that their time in the PTA becomes one of the most rewarding parts of their school journey. Real Stories from Morgans School Parents Sarah, a parent who joined FOMS 8 years ago, shares her experience: “I was nervous at first because I wasn’t sure how much time I could give. But the PTA welcomed me warmly, and I found that even helping with small tasks made a difference. The school events became a highlight for my family, and I loved seeing my children’s excitement. It’s been a great way to meet other parents and feel part of the community.” These stories show how joining the PTA can enrich your family’s school experience. How to Join the Morgans School PTA Joining the PTA is simple. Here’s what you need to do: Express your interest: Contact the school office or email us at friendsofmorgans@gmail.com Come along to the AGM or meet us for a coffee: Learn about the PTA’s current activities and plans. Get involved: Choose how you want to contribute based on your availability and interests. The PTA welcomes parents from all backgrounds and schedules. Whether you can volunteer regularly or just occasionally, your help is valuable. The Urgency of Joining Now With the current PTA members stepping down at the end of this academic year, the window to keep Friends of Morgans School alive is closing fast. If no new parents step forward soon, the school will lose its main source of community events and fundraising. This is a critical moment. Your involvement can make the difference between continuing cherished traditions and losing them. By joining today, you help ensure that Morgans School remains a vibrant, supportive place for your child and all students. Come and join us for our AGM on Wednesday 25th February at 9am

PLEASE NOTE: We will not accept blue shirts and blouses as they are no longer part of Morgans School uniform. why buy second hand? Recycling Second hand clothing encourages and develops a culture of recycling. Recycling garments is great for the environment and is a cheaper shopping alternative than buying new. Textile waste It is one of the best ways to deal with textile waste. Clothes often get dumped after a few wears, which generates a large amount of waste. Second hand clothes get used by a new person for a few more years, and this extends the lifespan of the garment. But when those garments are used to their fullest capabilities, then clothing can take up to 10 years before ending up in landfill. Eco-friendly Clothes manufacture causes damage to the environment, loss of habitat for animals, and pollution of natural resources. A huge amount of water and chemicals go into manufacturing our garments. Approximately 1,800 gallons of water are required to make one pair of blue jeans. If the clothes are recycled we are living a more sustainably. The water that is used to make these clothes, instead of getting lost as industrial waste, can now be used for other purposes, like drinking water.
